A podcast can become one of your brand’s most valuable media assets.
It can also become a very expensive room in which two people say nothing particularly memorable for 58 minutes.
The difference is not the microphone.
Indian brands are increasingly drawn to video podcasts because the format appears to solve several problems at once: authority, founder visibility, long-form storytelling, guest relationships, YouTube content and a steady supply of social clips.
It can do all of those things—but only when the show begins with a clear editorial role.
A branded podcast is not an extended advertisement
People do not volunteer an hour of their life to hear a company describe itself as innovative. They might listen to that company investigate an issue they genuinely care about. The brand benefits from creating the space; it does not need to dominate every sentence inside it.
Why video now matters
India’s podcast culture is increasingly visual. YouTube has described the evolution of Indian podcasts into visual-first “podshows”, highlighting creators who design conversations for video, build communities through regional or mixed-language communication and use Shorts as invitations into longer episodes. Start with the business question
Before naming the show, decide what it is expected to change. Goals might include building credibility, creating partner relationships, making a founder’s thinking visible, supporting recruitment, educating customers or opening conversations with experts and policymakers.
“Getting views” is not a complete goal. Views from whom, leading to what?
Make the premise defensible
The internet does not need another show called “Unfiltered Conversations”. A good premise establishes why this organisation, this host and this moment belong together.
Specificity makes guest selection easier and titles more searchable. It also gives the audience a reason to remember which show they watched.
Decide whether the founder should host
Founder-led podcasts can work beautifully when the founder is curious, prepared and willing to listen. They struggle when the founder treats every guest as an opportunity to perform expertise.
If the founder cannot commit to preparation, consider a professional host, strong co-host or limited narrative format.
Plan a season before building a studio
Begin with a defined first season—perhaps six to eight episodes. Map the guests and subjects together so the season feels like a body of thought rather than a random contact list.
Each episode can produce a full video, audio version, several distinct clips, a written article, guest assets, an email feature and quote graphics. This is where a podcast becomes a content system rather than a weekly production emergency.
Measure behaviour, not vanity
Track indicators connected to the original goal: relevant watch time, returning viewers, search traffic, newsletter sign-ups, qualified enquiries, guest and partner relationships, branded search growth and sales conversations influenced by the show.
Do not report one viral clip as proof that the whole strategy works. Equally, do not abandon a relevant specialist show because it has not reached celebrity numbers.
When your brand should not start one
- Nobody can explain the audience
- Leadership wants complete control over every answer
- There is no capacity for consistent post-production
- The host has no time to prepare
- The guest list is based only on follower counts
- The organisation expects immediate sales from every episode
- The premise could belong to almost any competitor
Build something worth returning to
The strongest branded podcasts create a recognisable world: a point of view, a visual identity, a quality of conversation and a relationship with the audience.
