You have a subject you care about, a few people you would love to interview and an idea for a show. What comes next? Starting a podcast in India becomes much easier when you treat it as an editorial and production project, with a defined audience, a realistic first season and a clear delivery plan.
At Kindness Media, podcast concept and production sit together. We help shape the show before recording, then bring the audio, video, artwork and release material into one coherent project. Here is a practical brief you can use whether you are launching a personal podcast, a founder-led series or a show for your organisation.
1. Write the promise of your podcast in one sentence
Try this: “This show helps [a specific audience] understand [a specific subject] through [a recognisable format].” A nutrition founder might interview practitioners about making healthier food choices practical. A social enterprise might explore how businesses solve a particular problem. A broad ambition such as “inspiring conversations” needs more detail before it can guide production.
List the questions your intended audience actually asks. Those questions should help determine episode topics, guest selection and the language you use in titles. Choose a premise that you can sustain beyond your first exciting interview.
2. Choose a format you can keep making
Interviews need guest coordination and research. Solo episodes need a host who can communicate a structured argument. Roundtables need clear moderation and more complex recording. A documentary or narrative format needs additional scripting and editing. The right choice depends on your idea, your time and your resources.
Decide whether the show needs audio, video or both. If you want a video podcast and social clips, plan framing, lighting and visual branding from the beginning rather than trying to rescue vertical clips from an unsuitable recording.
3. Plan the first season before booking a shoot
A short pilot season gives you a manageable project. Create an episode outline containing the topic, audience question, proposed guest, recording arrangements and expected takeaway. Prepare an alternative guest or solo episode in case a booking changes.
For example, a six-episode founder series could move from the problem the business addresses to customer experiences, practical advice, industry challenges and future decisions. Each conversation has its own role while still belonging to the same show.
4. Decide what to record in Mumbai and what to record remotely
Kindness Media has a studio in Mumbai and can discuss production requirements across India. In-person recording is useful when you want a consistent visual setting and an on-site team. Remote recording can make expert participation more practical when guests live elsewhere.
Before confirming production, ask about camera count, audio capture, crew, setup time, backups and file delivery. If a location shoot or travel is required, have those costs and responsibilities included in the proposal.
5. Agree on the finished deliverables
A recording session and a finished episode are different purchases. Write down what you need after the shoot:
- An edited full video and, if required, a separate audio version.
- Audio cleaning, colour correction and opening or closing graphics.
- Episode artwork, thumbnail options and show notes.
- A defined number of social clips with captions and agreed framing.
- Review rounds, delivery dates and a process for approving factual corrections.
- Responsibilities for publishing, hosting and distribution.
Clip counts and revisions should be agreed for your own show. A guest appearance on Kindness with Amy is a separate service from commissioning production of your podcast.
6. Build the launch around the audience
Prepare the show description, visual identity, trailer and initial release plan. Decide where your audience will discover the show and what they should do after watching: subscribe, read more, join a community or enquire about your organisation.
Social clips should each communicate a complete point. Give viewers a clear route to the relevant full episode. A sustainable release schedule is more useful than announcing weekly episodes before you know what your team can deliver.
What does podcast production cost in India?
The scope drives the quote: concept development, recording location, crew, episode length, editing, branding, clips and travel all affect the work involved. Compare proposals against the same deliverables. Our podcast production cost guide explains how to separate studio hire from complete production.
